Work and Achievements
Founded in 1999, Amba has an established non-formal education program, skill training for employability of youth and women and a multi-faceted health program under its banner. Our activities listed herein are run from three Centers located in East district of Delhi and other urban slums and unauthorized colonies.
- Educational support for school & non-school going children, Adult Literacy & Arts: Education Centers, set up near jugghi bastis, annually providing200+ children with non-formal education and educational support .This helps integrate these children into mainstream education and improve school retention levels by making the process of learning joyful and fun with dance, drama, art & craft workshops being made an integral part of the learning process. Adult Women are taught basic reading & writing skills in our Adult Literacy classes.
- Skill Training: Employability needs of the poor urban youth is met through Skill Training in Basic & Advance Computer Applications, spoken English, soft skills and retail marketing for entry level jobs. Vocational training is provided in Cutting and Tailoring, Fashion design and Beauty culture for women.
- Self Help Savings Groups: The Women’s Self help Savings Groups has over 500 marginalized women members with cumulative savings of 50 lacs with all Groups having their own bank accounts doing active inter loaning for personal needs and to start their own enterprise. Legal awareness and counseling sessions are held for women to educate them on various laws
- Health Camps and primary clinics are conducted on a regular basis to provide healthcare to the community at large offering free consultancy by qualified and dedicated doctors along with free medicines. Awareness and screening Camps is conducted for diabetes, cancer, HIV aids and Cataract with free tests and treatment.
