Our Mission

Niramaya focuses on quality eye care to rural and urban poor.

Work and Achievements

Niramaya Charitable Trust a grass root NGO, was registered in January 2004 at Gurgaon (Haryana), as a charitable institution under society registration Act, 1860 with a mission to combat preventable blindness through quality community eye care. Niramaya was founded by young professionals motivated by their belief in Personal Social Responsibility (PSR). Niramaya has focused since inception on top three causes of blindness; untreated cataract, refractive errors and corneal blindness through its distinct dedicated projects; Motiya Bund (Cataract Surgeries), Drishtirath (Mobile eye care) and Punardristhi (corneal transplants and eye bank). These projects have found steady support in local community and many individuals, local industrialists and Corporates have supported these projects. Niramaya’s Hon. Medical Director, Dr. Hitendra Ahooja, MS (Ophthalmology), Fellow- Cornea and anterior segment (LVP Eye Institute, Hyderabad) is one of the foremost eye surgeons in Gurgaon. Its President, Dr. T. N. Ahooja has more than 4 decades of exemplary track record of serving the society through various charitable health care institutions in and around Gurgaon. Niramaya has consistently focused on providing high quality services while managing to keep the none core costs extremely low making it perhaps the lowest cost provider of quality community eye care. A distinct strategy adopted by Niramaya has been to engage community through various events (Run for Vision, Walk for Vision, Gurgaon Carnival) to enhance awareness about eye donation. This has resulted in a sharp rise in annual eye donations in Gurgaon from near zero to more than 300 now. Niramaya has been granted IT exemption for donations received under Section 80 (G) and is eligible to receive foreign donations being registered under FCRA. It manages a duly approved Eye Bank only one in South Haryana.
