Our mission is to develop future ideas for gender equality and development that are politically practicable, social acceptable and economically viable.
Work and Achievements
Globally, 1 in 3 women will experience violence in their lifetime; however, gender-based violence starts early. More than 50 percent of sexual assaults are committed against girls under 16 years of age; 64 million girls are child brides; and 140 million girls have undergone female genital mutilation.
POWER Foundation is committed to prevent and reduce gender discrimination and violence against women and girls through non-formal education and youth engagement and leadership; positively engaging men and boys, urging them to become champions of gender equality through relevant educational programming that challenges language and behaviours, as well as harmful ideas of manhood that lead to violence against women.
Through our projects, which are also locally adaptable, Power develops strategies and plans, facilitates gender mainstreaming (with achievable monitoring milestones); capacity development/sensitization on gender issues; resource mobilization; organize consultative meetings/seminars. We champion innovative advocacy & communication strategies in partnership with some of the best known organizations and influential individuals with multiple initiatives for leveraging both print and social media with a robust media interface that ensures greater visibility and also address capacity building needs of media people.
Bringing together the power of collective impact, and generating community ownership and catalyzing the quality of demand. Our focal area of work includes adopting villages and implementing intensive model village creation projects, conducting specific development programs for rural girls and women in chosen project areas, focusing on three aspects of empowerment -equal rights, education and health by enabling the role of Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) and through them also mainstreaming the concern regarding Gender Based Violence.
