Work and Achievements
AMC is the oldest registered organisation of its kind in Bangalore and in India, with comprehensive help to the mentally challenged.It was set up in 1962 to provide support services to mentally challenged children from all sections of the society.Today it shelters and supports about 130 children, adolescents and adults from economically weaker section of the society. Some of the projects are listed below.
At Akruti special school, children are undergoing special education. Pragati is a multi-category vocational training centre where 60 men and women are trained in various vocations like weaving, candle making, carpentry, etc.
Sanskriti is the sheltered workshop where 28 mentally challenged who have acquired vocational skills at Pragati are employed. AMC’s Day care centre caters for 20 severely challenged people.Our endeavour is to make life more meaningful for the mentally challenged.
The Child Guidance Clinic and Self help groups of parents are useful for parents in taking care of their mentally challenged children. Samruddhi is a programme involving families with the mentally challenged children and adults. The objective is to improve families in taking care of these special people.
