Enfold Proactive Health Trust
To provide life skills based sexuality and personal safety education for children and adults. To provide medico-legal and psychosocial support to children affected by sexual violence. To adopt a multidisciplinary team approach to strengthen systems that address gender based violence and sexual violence.
Work and Achievements
A study on Child Abuse by the Ministry of Women and Child Development found that 53% of over 12000 children interviewed had been exposed to some form of sexual abuse. Online access and exposure has played a role in increasing the incidence and intensity of this crime, often leaving the child with deep emotional scars. The perpetrator, however, goes undetected, unrepentant and unpunished, except occasionally.
We believe our children have the capacity to recognize and report sexual abuse, and can heal emotionally, if helped in a professional manner. Enfold’s 360 approach has evolved over 16 years to prevent and address this abuse.
Through education, training, research, advocacy and providing tangible support, we have reached 1,67,630 children, 31,847 parents, teachers, and support staff in 549 schools across 42 cities India.
LakkshaMakkalaSurakshe Project is our Personal Safety Program designed to include 6 sessions for children,, sensitization sessions for parents, teachers and staff and costs Rs 200/- per child. We have addressed 16,503 children, and 940 parents, teachers, and support staff, and hope to make it to 1,00,000 underprivileged children over 5 years.
Collaborative Child Response Units/ Single Stop Centres: We enabled the setting up of 11 CCRU centres, trained and sensitized 3,121 medical, police and judicial personnel, and 1,884 counsellors and social workers across India on the recommended protocols for interacting with and handling cases of child sexual abuse.
Rehabilitation and Reintegration services – We have provided support free of cost for the reintegration and rehabilitation of over 60 children and families impacted by sexual violence. Registered support persons counsel and hand hold them through the medico-legal process as per the POCSO Act and support their psychosocial rehabilitation. We train all stakeholders to be empathetic and manage sexual abuse while adhering to POCSO Act and policy guidelines, as well as child sensitive protocols for interviewing, collecting and recording evidence. Providing these services cost us 12-14 lakhs per annum.
