SHE (Stronger. Healthier. Every day) Matters
The water had burst, and I was due. I had to reach hospital in 30 minutes or less, but I didn't know this, then." She wipes the tears. "I had never been to hospital neither was ever briefed on what to be done and not to." says Sushma, a Hearing Impaired (HI) who lost her baby as she couldn't reach hospital on time.
"We HIs don't make often visits to hospitals or other public spaces. There are hardly anyone who can help us the way we should be. Sympathy is the only thing that welcomes us, and not the requested help." Sushma, signs for all the HI mothers.
Considering the sad story of a mother who lost her child due to lack of self-knowledge and non-sensitized society, we at GiftAbled decided to take a step forward to reach hospitals to help HI mothers in healthy upbringing of a new generation. We intend to sensitize the hospital staff, in basic signs to help these mothers, which even being a course off the medical books, was welcomed with open minds.
Now a step ahead GiftAbled is into making the exclusive health video modules on "Menstrual and Maternal Health for the HI Women" with support from Dr. Shaibya Saldana, aiming to reach all the organization working with HI women across India.
I am raising awareness and funds for this cause by running for GiftAbled in this TCS world 10k run.
