"The water had burst, and I was due. I had to reach hospital in 30 minutes or less, but I didn't know this, then." She wipes the tears. "I had never been to hospital neither was ever briefed on what to be done and not to" says Sushma, a deaf person who lost her baby as she couldn't reach hospital on time.
"We deaf & hard of hearing people don't make often visits to hospitals or other public spaces. Sympathy is the only thing that welcomes us, and not the requested help" Sushma, signs for all mothers.
Considering the story of a mother who lost her child due to lack of self-knowledge and non-sensitized society, we at GiftAbled decided to take a step forward to reach hospitals to help mothers in healthy upbringing of a new generation. Now a step ahead GiftAbled is into making the exclusive health video modules on "Menstrual and Maternal Health for the deaf & hard of hearing Women" with support from Dr. Shaibya Saldana, aiming to reach all the organization working with women across India.
I am raising awareness and funds for this cause by running for GiftAbled in this TCS world 10k run. Please do your bit by spreading the word and/ or donate! Thanks.
