Free education to economically underprivileged children from LKG to XII serving areas in and around Kovalam fishing village.
Work and Achievements
Gurukulam was started in 2004 by Capt. Nandkumar, an airline pilot, providing free education to children from economically underprivilged sections of society. The trust is run by a group of young professionals who are based globally and share a common vision and mission. From a small group of 34 students, the school has now grown to 200+. Each year only 25 students are taken in at the LKG level and groomed to be worthy citizens of India. Our first batch of students have completed their Grade X public examinations this year.
The school has won many karate and yoga competitions, interschool activities for Science and the environment, Tamil and drama and has represented the state in a video conference on mother tongues of India through the NIOS.
The school has:
- Registered with the British Council for the International School Award programme.
- Regular workshops with the “Toastmaster’s”, helping the students polish their language skills and thereby gain in confidence.
- Taken part in the indian Talent Exam and Science Olympiads and won International ranking of 9 in English and the Golden School Award for being one of the top 100 best schools in the city.
The school welcomes volunteers to visit, stay and be a part of the change we want to see!
