Adopt a multidisciplinary team approach to strengthen systems that address gender based and sexual violence.
Work and Achievements
Enfold India works to break the silence around sexual violence against children and adults of all sexual identities and orientations. Over the past 16 years, our work has evolved from education and training, to research, advocacy, engagement and collaboration with all stakeholders to create an ecosystem that will result in safe spaces for all.
The scope of our work is enormous. A study on Child Abuse by the Ministry of Women and Child Development found that 53% of children had faced some form of sexual abuse. Our Personal Safety Education has enabled 1,67,630 children, 31,847 parents, teachers, and support staff in 549 schools across 42 cities India. Unfortunately the underprivileged child has hardly any access to Personal Safety Education.
LakkshaMakkalaSurakshe Project’s objective is to take Personal Safety Education, free of cost, to 1,00,000 underprivileged children over 5 years. It costs us Rs 220/- per child to conduct this program, and we have covered 16,503 children, and 940 parents, teachers, and support staff to date.
Our fight for justice is arduous. Sexual crimes are confounded by silence. When reported, the medico-legal process is complex and tedious and the conviction rates are low. The sex offender goes unpunished, and remains free to prey on many more. Educating people on how to recognize, resist and report sexual violence could make a huge difference in this scenario.
Rehabilitation and Reintegration services – We have provided support, free of cost, for the reintegration and rehabilitation of over 60 children and families impacted by sexual violence. Registered Support Persons counsel and hand hold them through the medico-legal process as per the POCSO Act and support their psychosocial rehabilitation. This costs us Rs 10 to 12 lakhs per annum
