Sri Sri Rural Development Programme Trust (SSRDP) of Art of Living Organisation has been functioning since 2001 with a view to further improve the quality of life in rural areas & urban slums.
In its aim to improve rural infrastructure SSRDP has electrified more than 21000 homes with solar through its Light- a-Home project, reaching out to more than 268 unelectrified villages in the border and forest villages of India. SSRDP has been teaching written and oral communication skills to rural and semi urban college going youth through a programe called Access to Employability (A to E). SSRDP trained more than 26000 youths in 2017 in various vocational and communication skills. In a latest initiative which is in-line with Swachh Bharat, SSRDP is finding innovative ways of dealing with vegetable waste, as in markets, housing colonies, large temples and garbage dumps in cities. Waste Management Plants have been set up in 13 top temples of India including Krishna Math Udupi and Kashi Vishwanath Temple Varanasi. We have also been treating contaminated lakes and water bodies combating harmful pollutants and foul smell. Experimental efforts have been successful in cleaning Ulsoor Lake in Bangalore & 12 lakes in Chennai by a scientific method that employs low cost bio-solutions.
