Purkal Youth Development Society
Educating & empowering underprivileged first generation learners in village Purkal, Dehradun Uttarakhand.
Work and Achievements
For the last 15 years our institution is working in a holistic manner to transform poor students, particularly girls, by addressing their all- round development.
Our Mission “ Creating leaders from Uttarakhand for individual, social and global change”
We are currently working with more than 430 first generation learners who come from 41 villages around the Village of Purkal in Uttarakhand with a population of over 15000. This year we have extended our scope to enrolling meritorious students from the upper reaches of the Himalayas in our “Only the best program” and 10 students from the Uttarakhand Tsunami affected area.
Our Vision “To enhance the lives of underprivileged rural children through holistic education, nutrition and healthcare”
For nurturing very poor children we provide education, mentorship, day long nutrition and complete healthcare of the highest quality through our CBSE Senior Secondary Day Boarding and Boarding School. We are entirely dependent on charity.
We employ international benchmarking and an array of co-scholastic programs to develop 21st Century skills.
Blending best pedagogical practices to address the needs of these first generation learners, the teaching learning process is experiential with a 5-step approach. This is balanced with self-learning and memory techniques, collaborative learning and active learning strategies.
The school does not have a conventional hierarchy and is run by a senior management and a democratically elected student council.
